Trucking association executives from three Southeastern states will come together next month to discuss legislative priorities and legal reform efforts shaping the industry, as part of a free two-day conference aimed at motor carriers, transportation company owners and industry partners.
State Executives to Talk Legislative Priorities
The ReFuel Trucking Conference is scheduled for October 27-28 in Chattanooga, Tenn. Among the featured sessions is a state trucking executive panel bringing together Alabama Trucking Association President and CEO Mark Colson, Seth Millican of the Georgia Trucking Association, and Donna England of the Tennessee Trucking Association.
The 60-minute open discussion will focus on what each state is working on from a legislative standpoint, as well as efforts the three associations are pursuing collectively. That includes their participation in the Trucking Association Executive Council (TAEC)’s Trucking Resurgence Plan, a broader initiative to identify and eliminate “bad actors” from the trucking industry and prevent their entrance going forward.
Legal Reform Takes Center Stage
Legal reform is expected to be a central theme of the panel. The three executives plan to discuss how attendees can work with leaders in their own states to bring more common-sense and fairness to the legal system, an effort already taking shape here in Alabama through the Alabamians for Legal Reform, a coalition of business organizations and leaders pushing for changes to the state’s legal environment.
More Than a Trade Show
The panel is one of several sessions planned for ReFuel, which organizers describe as a gathering built around candid, in-depth conversation rather than a typical trade-show format. Other scheduled speakers include defense attorneys, highway patrol officers, cargo theft specialists and claims executives, professionals organizers say are closest to some of the industry’s most complex challenges, from litigation and regulatory pressure to cargo security.
The conference is hosted every other year by the Transportation Team at Higginbotham Insurance, one of the nation’s largest independent insurance firms.
This year’s event will bring together motor carriers, transportation company owners, insurance carrier leadership and industry partners for two days of sessions in Chattanooga.
Registration for the conference is free. More information, including the full agenda and registration details, is available at refuelleadershipconference.com.
