TRUK PAC-supported candidates advance in special elections

Earlier this week, two ATA-supported candidates, Russell Bedsole and Kirk Hatcher were successful in special elections.

House District 49 – Shelby, Bibb, Chilton
In House District 49, ATA-supported candidate Russell Bedsole-(R) easily defeated Democrat Cheryl Patton receiving 63 percent of the vote. Bedsole started his law enforcement career with the Lee County Sheriff’s Department in 1998. He is a captain with the Shelby County Sheriff’s office and is a commander of the jail division.

Bedsole served two terms on the Alabaster City Council from 2012 until this year. ATA recently held a meet-and-greet event for the Montgomery association community at our offices for Russell as well as Ben Robbins, a candidate for the special election in House District 33.

Senate District 26 – Montgomery
In Senate District 26 Democratic primary election, ATA supported candidate Rep. Kirk Hatcher-D received 48 percent of the vote nearly escaping a runoff election. He will face former Rep. John Knight, who received 21 percent of the vote, in the December 15 runoff. With a six-person primary, this result for Rep. Hatcher was a remarkable result. Due to this being a solidly Democratic district, the winner of the Democratic primary will be the presumed winner but will face Republican William Green, a former Montgomery City Councilman, on March 2, 2021.
