STAR ID drivers license required for air travelers by Oct. 1, 2020

Starting October 1, 2020 you’ll need a more secure driver’s license called STAR ID to fly anywhere in the United States or to enter certain federal facilities. Otherwise, you’ll have to provide a valid passport or some other type of acceptable documentation.
State officials are urging Alabama residents not to wait to obtain a STAR ID. The state developed the STAR ID in response to the federal REAL ID Act of 2005, which came after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
The only way to obtain a STAR ID is to apply for one at an ALEA Drivers License exam office.
The STAR ID does not cost more than a regular driver’s license, but you’ll need to bring four different documents to prove your identity, including a birth certificate or unexpired passport, a Social Security card or Social Security document showing your number, and two (2) documents showing your home address.
