Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen is encouraging registered voters to participate in the May 19 primary election despite recent changes affecting several congressional races.

According to reporting from Alabama Daily News’s Claire Harrison, voters across the state should still plan to vote on May 19 because statewide constitutional offices, local races, legislative contests, judicial races and statewide constitutional amendments will all be decided on schedule.

Gov. Kay Ivey recently announced special primaries for Alabama’s 1st, 2nd, 6th and 7th Congressional Districts following changes to district maps. Voters in those districts will return to the polls Aug. 11 to cast ballots in congressional races tied to the updated districts.

Allen emphasized that only congressional races in those four districts are affected. Those races will still appear on ballots during the May 19 election, but results in the impacted districts will be voided and re-held during the August special primary.

State officials estimate the special primary election process will cost approximately $4.45 million across fiscal years 2026 and 2027.

Allen also expressed confidence in Alabama election officials and poll workers as they manage both the regular election cycle and the additional special primary.

Alabama Trucking has published its “Trucker Approved” list of endorsed candidates, highlighting those who support policies that improve roadway safety, reduce regulatory burdens on carriers, and support pro-business policies like lawsuit reform and lower taxes.
