The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance announced that Brake Safety Day will be on Thursday, September 7. As part of part of the CVSA Operation Airbrake Program, Brake Safety Day is an enforcement and compliance campaign in which law enforcement agencies across North America conduct inspections on large trucks and buses to identify out-of-adjustment brakes and other brake-system and antilock braking system violations.
On Sept. 7, inspectors will primarily conduct the North American Standard Level I Inspection, however, in ten jurisdictions inspectors will also be using performance-based brake testing (PBBT) equipment to measure vehicle braking efficiency. The minimum braking efficiency for trucks is 43.5 percent, required by the FMCSRs and CVSA out-of-service criteria.
