Alabama’s trucking community came through in a big way for the 2025 ATA Golf Classic, presented by Birmingham Freightliner & Western Star, raising a record-breaking $516,000 to champion our political and advocacy efforts through TRUKPAC. The annual event happened on Tuesday, Oct. 7, drew 356 golfers, representing hundreds of Alabama trucking businesses, filling all three courses at the Robert Trent Jones Capitol Hill Course in Prattville, Ala.
The event is a testament to the support and leadership of an industry that does so much for our state. More than a game of golf, its sole mission is to raise funds to help shape the political environment in Alabama. Creating a pro-trucking political environment supports our organization’s goals of reforming lawsuit abuse, keeping business and personal taxes in check, protecting local jobs, and ensuring critical safety laws are fair, transparent, and enforced equally.
The 2026 elections feature several key state government races, including those for Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, and other critical offices and positions that hold the power to make appointments and decisions that will shape our industry, affect your operations, and influence the future of your operation. Classic Finance Chairman Scott Smith of PS Logistics and his committee. who worked for months leading up to the event, rallying support from over 200 trucking and related businesses across Alabama.

Several elected officials and political hopefuls demonstrated their support for the industry. Among them was State Sen. Jack Williams, a fourth-generation farmer from Wilmer, who is currently campaigning for Commissioner of the Alabama Dept. of Agriculture & Industry. Also present were state representatives Kelvin Lawrence, Penni McClammy, Arnold Mooney, Mark Shirey, and Rhett Marques, the latter of whom is running for the Congressional District 1 seat.
Minority Leader Representative Anthony Daniels also attended, as did Derek Chen, a candidate for State Auditor, and State Public Service Commission Commissioner Chris Beeker. Also attending were Corey Hill, a candidate for Agriculture Commissioner, and Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry, who is running for the Public Service Commission. Other notable names include Senators Clyde Chambliss, Jerry Starnes, Matt Woods, and State Supreme Court Justice Kelli Wise.
“It means so much to this Association that so many of our elected leaders stand with our industry as we work to service and support our state’s economy through job creation, safety and logistics,” said ATA Chairman of the Board Daniel Wright. “I also want to commend and thank our tournament finance Chair, Scott Smith, and his committee for donating their time and resources to making this event a success.
