Government announces reduced UCR fees for 2019
The
federal government has announced reduced annual fees in 2019 for commercial
carriers and other entities required by law to participate in the Unified
Carrier Registration Plan (UCR). The
Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), which has oversight of
UCR, published a final rulemaking on
December 28.
For the second consecutive year, those businesses subject to UCR will see a
reduction in fees. The reductions for 2018 and 2019 are based on
recommendations from the UCR Board of Directors following several years of
higher than expected collections.
The 2019 UCR registration period
is now open. You may complete your
UCR Registration at www.ucr.gov For support or questions, call
1-833-UCR-PLAN or send an email to helpdesk@ucr.gov.
Be aware that several states maintain their own UCR systems and at least some
of them may require a few days before they’re ready to accept
registrations.
State enforcement of the UCR registration requirements commonly begins January
1. But since the opening of the 2019 registration period was delayed
several months, UCR is requesting states delay enforcement until April 1, 2019.
The UCR Act, established in 2005, requires motor carriers involved in
interstate commerce, and other businesses subject to The Act, to submit annual
fees based on fleet size to supplement funding for state highway motor carrier
registration and safety programs.
