Driving Good: A message from ATA Foundation President Terry Kilpatrick

Dear Friend of Alabama Trucking,
With the close of 2019 upon us, I reflect on the many wonderful things the Alabama Trucking Association Foundation accomplished in its first full year, and I couldn’t be prouder for Alabama Trucking.
I think of the incredible support from our members as we launched our new Foundation. That support is what drove the Foundation’s success. I am grateful to so many ATA member firms and individuals who share our vision for Alabama’s trucking community.
From industry promotion, job creation and safety awareness, the ATA Foundation made a very real, substantive impact on the lives of so many Alabamians.
The Foundation awarded six diesel tech scholarships to deserving students at state community colleges last year – a pair of those, Zachary Benefield and Kyle Keck, recently graduated and are already working in the industry.
And this past fall, as I am sure you saw, we placed television spots on local CBS affiliates during CBS Sports’ SEC Game of the Week. Those ads reached millions of viewers in the state’s larger television markets, including Birmingham, Dothan, Mobile and Montgomery, touting the vital role of trucking in our state’s economy, as well as showcasing the industry’s commitment to safety and as a provider of great-paying jobs.
Meanwhile, the Alabama Road team partnered with several public-school systems implementing Teens and Trucks and Share the Road programs in high school driver’s education courses. Road Team captains met hundreds of impressionable young drivers who eagerly engaged with real professional truck drivers from several ATA member firms.
Our work signifies Alabama Trucking’s ongoing objective to promote and protect the trucking industry. Collectively, ATA and its Foundation are making a difference as they continue to serve the membership in a variety of ways, as well as advancing the trucking industry in Alabama.
We plan to do more, but we need your continued support. I hope you or your company will renew your commitment or become a new Foundation donor. If you’re interested in doing so or want more information, please click here. Your contribution is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
And lastly, mark your calendars for the evening of January 28th in Montgomery, directly following the ATA Board of Directors’ meeting. Come hear what the Foundation has planned for the coming new year and decade. We will have full details on that event in the coming weeks.
It’s been an incredible year for the ATA Foundation. We drove good things for Alabama, and I look forward to building this great organization together.
Sincerely,
Terry Kilpatrick
President
