Alabama Trucking’s Safety & Maintenance Management Council (SMMC) Birmingham Chapter met earlier this week at McLeod Software for in-depth discussions on trucking safety, fleet maintenance and regulatory compliance.
The meeting featured presentations focused on SMS prioritization, roadside inspection trend tracking and fleet maintenance best practices led by Alabama Trucking Senior Director for Safety Intelligence and Regulatory Affairs Clinton Seymour.
The theme of the meeting was “Safety and Maintenance 102,” a continuation of the chapter’s earlier “Safety and Maintenance 101” sessions held earlier this year that are curated to help fleet managers better understand SMS prioritization, roadside inspection trends and enforcement practices while equipping maintenance personnel with practical strategies to reduce inspection risks and improve overall fleet performance and profitability

According to Seymour, the sessions provide foundational and advanced knowledge for young safety and maintenance professionals as they develop programs and procedures within their operations.

Attendees also received insight into how enforcement officials prioritize inspections and how carriers can use SMS data trends to improve safety outcomes and reduce violations.
Approximately 60 trucking industry professionals from across the Birmingham area attended the meeting to learn more about advancements in fleet safety management, compliance strategies and efficient shop operations.
