Alabama declares state of emergency, relaxes HOS regs for relief efforts
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
In the initial aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, and with its remnants now moving into east into Alabama and Florida, Gov. Kay Ivey has proclaimed a State of Emergency in Alabama, thus relaxing hour of service (HOS) regulations for drivers hauling emergency supplies, fuel and equipment on Alabama roadways.
Gov. Ivey issued the proclamation late Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, citing a dire need for supplies and relief support for victims of the storm across the Gulf Coast, and also for the potential disruption of vital fuel supplies across the Southeast, and beyond.
The HOS waiver is effective for 30 days and only pertains only to those drivers directly involved in relief efforts related to Hurricane Harvey.
