Action Alert: Please contact USDOT in support of National ATA’s petition on California meal and rest requirements
The US Department of Transportation (DOT) is currently reviewing a petition filed by the American Trucking Associations (ATA) seeking preemption of California’s redundant meal and rest requirements (F4A). As part of its review, DOT is accepting public comments on the petition. ATA is currently reaching out to a wide range of stakeholders – including motor carriers, drivers and supply chain companies and organizations – encouraging them to support our petition by filing comments.
Our interest in seeking support for the petition is two-fold. First, we hope to build a significant and solid public record of support underscoring both the substantive implications of this issue and the wide range of stakeholders it affects. Second, we anticipate that our opponents will seek to fill the docket with the same specious claims they made throughout our many legislative battles.
Many of you are already in the process of preparing comments to submit to DOT, highlighting the real-world implications of this issue and urging DOT to grant ATA’s petition. We thank you for those efforts. For those of you who have not yet submitted comments, we ask you to please contact the U.S. Dept. of Transportation as soon as possible and register your support for National ATA’s petition.
Doing so is easy. Simply fill out this form and a comment will be posted on your behalf to DOT’s public docket.
With the petition’s public comment period closing on Monday, Oct. 29, time is of the essence. DOT needs to hear from stakeholders affected by this issue as soon as possible. Opponents are sure to fill the docket with misinformation. We cannot allow their unfounded claims to go unchallenged. We encourage you to not only contact DOT yourselves, but also to encourage your colleagues to contact the agency too using the same link.
We thank you in advance for your help with this important issue.
