This quarter we profile current Alabama Trucking Association Chairman of the Board Greg Brown of B.R. Williams Trucking in Oxford, Ala. Holding a law degree and degrees in accounting and mathematics, Chairman Brown brings a wealth of skills and experience to our Association that will help advance our industry. He leads one of Alabama’s most respected trucking and logistics firms, continually pushing himself and his colleagues to strive for excellence at every business phase. His leadership abilities are also well known, and his reputation reaches nationally as the state's representative to the American Trucking Associations in Washington D.C.
Also inside, we report on the industry’s growing cargo theft problem. These crimes cost our industry billions annually, robbing fleets and shippers of more than just the value of stolen property or collateral damage to equipment. Losing a truck and its cargo affects insurance premiums, damages business reputations, degrades client confidence, and in rare cases even poses physical danger to employees.
Because of Alabama’s strong manufacturing sector and a busy port, it ranks among the top third of states for stolen cargo. ATA officials want state lawmakers to pass legislation that clearly defines criminal laws and increases fines and penalties for those who steal freight.
As always there is plenty of state industry news, fleet safety announcements, and lots more.
